Google and the future of content targeting

Last week Google knocked out another competitor by acquiring Sprinks online advertising network. On CNET News.com Stefanie Olsen analyses Google's present and future business strategies.

Content-targeting ads still need to be improved: according to Forrester Research, response rates to content-targeted ads are about one-fifth that of search-related ads.

I read a post at WebMastworld.com that really put the content-versus-search contextual ads into perspective for the publisher: if the return-on-investment is there, use the contextual ads in addition to the search ads! Sure, they may only bring in 40% of the revenue, but if you're turning a profit, why complain? Just use it!
