The Ship Song Project

July 26, 2011 at 6:17 by Mark Comments

The Sydney Opera House has a new promo featuring a swag of both local and international singers extolling the virtues of the Sydney Opera House and its surrounds. They do so via a performance of Nick Cave’s ‘The Ship Song’. Turning the song from a dedication of solidarity into an ode from a building to the sea.

Sydney Opera House has married this iconic song with the world’s most famous building to celebrate the artists, architecture and interiors that together make Sydney Opera House intrinsic to Australia’s cultural fabric.

Over a 12 month period, artists and companies performing at the Sydney Opera House were asked to perform a section of the song. These included the likes of Neil Finn, Kev Carmody, Sarah Blasko, Angus and Julia Stone, Paul Kelly, Temper Trap, Martha Wainwright, Katie Noonan, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Daniel Johns. The singers are joined on the track by the Sydney Symphony, Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare Company and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
