Tweetphony - A Twitter fueled symphony

This is an interesting idea that should be a crowd pleaser for the twitterati.  The Metropole Orchestra is currently under threat due to budget cuts.  To raise awareness of its plight they invite you to come play on a digital piano and compose a (musical) tweet that just might be played back by the Metropole Orchestra in a live Tweetphony tomorrow (Friday 26th).

#CloseTheTap, tweet to save water

Nowadays tweets have become a social currency, a currency for brands, but also for charity organizations who want to raise awareness and spread the word around global problems like, for example, the waste of water. In South Africa digital agency Native came up with a nice idea: a live FlowCam connected to Twitter that is monitoring a flowing tap. Visitors to www.closethetap.co.za are encouraged to tweet a personal commitment to waste less water. With every tweet the tap will tighten a little with the ultimate goal of completely closing the tap when 10.000 Tweets are posted. Read more…

Genius idea by Duval Guillaume Modem to promote Scrabble Trickster, a new game obviously inspired by the original Scrabble. For a new game based on playing with words, what better than the idea to launch a Twitter based Scrabble challenge to the social media community in Belgium? Write the highest scoring Scrabbletweet with a set of one hundred random characters. Every day the highest scoring tweet wins the board game.

WEBGL TWITTER VISUALIZER & HOLOGRAPHIC INSTALLATION

This is a Twitter visualization tool with a modern twist. The site created for CNN in advance of the COP17 Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, utilizes the WebGL capabilities of modern browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Safari to create a globe populated with trees that grow in realtime. Every tweet tagged with hashtag #COP17 will stimulate growth in a plant or tree in the Ecosphere that represents a certain topic, such as sustainability. Read more…

Data Visualisation. Which language do you browse?

Google Chrome’s translate feature allowed cartographer Eric Fisher to read the language used by the browser. Combining this information with Twitter’s API he created a beautiful global map of languages, emulating countries’ shapes, while at the same time showing how they fuse together at their borders.
