Nokia is promoting its 3230 model in Italy with an online marketing effort together with Lycos. The Lycos chat (which counts on 800.000 registered users) will be personalised with the Nokia’s brand, and will promote in particular the “Street Stuff” tour which will present the 3230 smartphone around the country. Lycos Dating Service is a new search engine based on database containing millions of profiles and photos. The data come from iMatchup.com, LoveAccess.com, Tickle, True.com, and Lycos’ own Matchmaker.com. The index of Lycos Dating Search will be refreshed daily and use of the search engine will be free. Lycos will sell ads and charge partner dating sites for every click they will receive.
Valentine’s Day searches have increased 172 percent over the past week. It seems like women are short of ideas for this year’s presents. Lycos says while Valentine’s gifts for him made the top 10 list of most popular Valentine’s Day-related searches, Valentine’s gifts for her did not. In fact, searches for gifts for him are four times more popular than gifts for her. Reuters reports that Online film download service Movielink is launching a Web site with Internet portal service Lycos in a co-branding deal made in order to widen its customer base. The new site, at http://lycos.movielink.com, will allow Lycos users to easily access films from nearly every major Hollywood movie studio.
Disney has signed an agreement with Lycos to promote the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” through Europe (which in Italy becomes “The curse of the first moon”, boh!). Nine countries will be involved in the campaign that will take advantage of a special web site in nine languages. Disney is trying to take advantage of the very well established Lycos communities. Users might play the characters online by challenging other people throughout Europe in the Fight Club (that will be hosted on Lycos web site). There will also be a chat room and a competition to win the movie gadgets.
