Coca-Cola and the Recycling King

Facebook Places is supposed to be a great tool for retail marketing. But it can be also successfully used for social advertising, as a recent campaign by Coca-Cola in Israel clearly proves. The idea is pretty straightforward, and therefore smart. They tagged 10,000 marked recycling bins throughout the country, in order to make them check-in points, but also to allow people to easily find locations where they could recycle their plastic goods. Advertising for peace

The Peace Campaign is a public service campaign created by a group of Israeli and Palestinian advertising professionals to promote mutual understanding and peace between their two peoples. As Ian explained me, in the winter of 2003, The Peres Center for Peace and the Palestinian Economic Forum, together with Maurice Lévy of Publicis Groupe, gathered more than 80 media, communications and advertising professionals from both sides to create a campaign to help end the Middle East conflict. The public service advertising campaign will be produced and broadcast to Israeli, Palestinian and neighboring Arab populations in the beginning of 2006. Online advertising growing in Israel

Globes [online] reports turnover for Internet advertising in Israel was $21-25 million in 2003, an increase of 45-55% compared with 2002, when Internet advertising turnover was $13 million, according to a new Business Data Israel (BDI) survey. The five leading Israeli websites are Walla!, MSN Israel, Y-net, Nana, and Tapuz, which collectively gain over 70% of total Internet advertising revenue. Israel’s other portals and business sites have less than 30%.
