Malaria, a little masterpiece

Pardon the title which might sound like a bad taste joke, but the truth is this short film, titled “Malaria”, is definitely a storytelling masterpiece. Created by Brazilian artist Edson Oda, this incredible and super original content piece combines origami, kirigami, time lapse, nankin illustration, comic books and western cinema. GE gets smart and real

GE tagline says “imagination at work”. And this time they really prove with a website (and with the help of Goodby Silverstein & Partners and North Kingdom) that explains how their smartgrid can help reducing dramatically pollution and energy waste.

I appreciate the good balance of storytelling with the voiceover and the website interactivity that aims at explaining concepts and the numbers with visual examples. It reminds me of the approach of modern science and technology museums and I believe it is pretty effective to create vivid awareness of environmental issues.

Interactive love at first “site”

From Greece, a campaign for a chocolate bar that is proving very successful. As Panos from OgilvyInteractive explains us, “Love at first site” is a 17 minute interactive film, shot on the Greek island of Paros, and in Athens.

It is a story of how Petros, a young Greek man and Joanna, an English girl on vacation at the island of Paros, fall in love “at first sight”, and spend a magic week together, only to break up and never see each other again. The story unfolds in “flash back” and users get to experience the love story from the beginning. Only through their actions and correct choices can they progress the love story and bring the two heroes back together at the big finale, two years after the events at Paros.
